It's tip-off time! See which basketball teams and players made a strong opening statement

High school basketball is back! And like always, that means plenty of tournaments to officially tip off the season. See which teams and players made a great opening statement in this weekend's tournaments and season openers.

Girls:

UNIONVILLE TOURNAMENT

Reagan Chrencik scored 12 points as New Hope-Solebury fell to host Unionville, 37-36, in overtime. Freshman Gabby D’Agnostino continued to impress with nine points, going 5-for-5 from the free throw line for the Lions.

Kitty Randa led the way with 18 points as Hatboro-Horsham topped Conestoga Valley 49-45 in a back-and-forth game. Leah Harrington scored 13 points and Allison Hewish added 11 for the Hatters.

Friday:

In the first high school game of her career, freshman Gabby D’Agnostino led all scorers with 15 points as New Hope-Solebury topped Hatboro-Horsham 51-33. Reagan Chrencik added 12 points for the Lions.

12th ANNUAL PENNRIDGE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Ella Brown netted 19 points to lead Pennridge to a 57-36 win over Quakertown. Quakertown’s Carolyn Sipprell posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Jaden Wan scored 15 points and Ruth O’Keefe had 13 as CR North defeated Villa Joseph Marie, 45-20. Delaney McCaffrey added 11 points for CR North, who outscored VJM 21-1 in the third period to put the game out of reach.

Friday:

Delaney McCaffery scored 16 points to power Council Rock North’s 44-27 comeback win over Quakertown. Jaden Wan added 11 points for the Indians, who trailed 21-15 at halftime.

Katie Yoder put up 14 points as Pennridge cruised to a 43-20 win over Villa Joseph Marie. 

9TH ANNUAL JIM CHURCH CLASSIC at Souderton

Cire Worley tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds to give Abington the single point victory over Souderton in Saturday’s tournament championship game. Worley sank 11 free throws, going 4-for-4 in the fourth quarter, to give the Ghosts the 39-38 win. Casey Harter had a game-high 19 points for Souderton. Worley, who scored 38 points during the tournament, was named MVP.

Friday:

Cire Worley netted 21 points and Maya Johnson had 20 to lead Abington to a thrilling 69-62 overtime win against West Chester Rustin. The Ghosts seized the victory despite a 35-point night from WC Rustin's Laine McGurk.

Casey Harter scored 18 points and dished out eight assists for Souderton in a 48-33 win over Mount St. Joseph.

STATE COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

Defense was the name of the game in CB West’s 35-9 win over Western Wayne on Saturday. Gabby Reichner grabbed 10 rebounds, while Alexis Castro contributed five boards. Tai Henkels and Gabi Senior each had three steals. Henkels and Janelle Blokker were the game’s high scorers with five points apiece as 10 Bucks put points on the board.

Boys:

PENNRIDGE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

After an 86-point outing on Friday, CB East continued to pile on the points, defeating Quakertown 66-49 on Saturday. Joey Giordano posted game-highs with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Patriots. Kyle Brendt had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Patriots, while Justin DiRoberto contributed 14 points.

William Tennent surpassed 70 points in both tournament games, this time topping Pennridge 78-66 on Saturday. Kirby Mooney scored 26 points and George Marion netted 25 for the Panthers, who scored 29 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Xavier Peters had a big game for Pennridge, scoring 26 points.

Friday:

Central Bucks East and William Tennent kicked off the season with a high-scoring contest. CB East’s Jacob Cummiskey led the way with 24 points, including 7-of-8 from the free throw line, as the Patriots topped the Panthers 86-73. Kyle Berndt tallied 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the win. Tennent’s Kirby Mooney led all scorers with 27 points.

Matt Campione was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line, on his way to team-high 17 points, as Pennridge topped rival Quakertown 59-52. Miles Longacre paced all scorers with 21 points for the Panthers.

Nathan Lapp erupted for 26 points to give Dock Mennonite a 57-54 win over Upper Dublin. Tony Martin added 12 points for the Pioneers, who scored 21 in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind victory.

Matt Hopkins posted 19 points and sank five free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to help Lansdale Catholic edge Souderton 53-50. Nate Hemsing led Souderton with 14 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

6th ANNUAL GOLDEN BEARS BOYS BASKETBALL TIPOFF CLASSIC at Upper Moreland

Tournament host Upper Moreland continued to dominate in Saturday’s 78-56 win over Upper Merion for the championship title. Colson Campbell led the way with 26 points while Jon Clark netted 22. Alex Best added 11 points for the Golden Bears, who scored 46 of their points in the second half.

Friday:

Upper Moreland scored 25 points in the second quarter to take a commanding lead in its season opener against Franklin Towne Charter en route to a 66-34 win. Jon Clark had 14 points and Colson Campbell added 13 for UM.

HATBORO-HORSHAM TIPOFF TOURNAMENT 

Connor Taddei led the scoring with 14 points as Pennsbury topped Hatboro-Horsham 60-43, giving new head coach Wes Emme his first win. Ty Koczak had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Falcons. Jake Grier led the Hatters with 13 points.

Friday:

Ty Kocak led all scorers with 22 points, but Pennsbury was edged 47-45 by Northeast.

Noah Schlosser had a game-high 18 points for Hatboro-Horsham, but the Hatters dropped a close one to Roberson, 47-44.

SUBURBAN ONE/PAC CHALLENGE

Tyler Meinel was 9-for-10 from the free throw line, on his way to 15 points, but Central Bucks East fell to Perkiomen Valley 58-54 in Friday’s opener.

In another close contest, CB West was edged by Pope John Paul II, 47-45, despite Matt Engle’s game-high 19 points.

CONWELL-EGAN TIP OFF TOURNAMENT

After needing a buzzer-beater to secure Friday’s win, Conwell-Egan took an early commanding lead Saturday and never looked back, defeating Harry S. Truman 81-35.

Friday:

Kayvier Adams sank a clutch three-pointer for Harry S. Truman in the final minute of the game to clinch the Tigers’ 46-40 win over Faith Christian.

Tyariq Corbin went coast to coast and hit a jump shot as time expired to give Conwell-Egan a thrilling 78-76 victory over Avon Grove.

TRIANGLE CLUB TIP OFF TOURNAMENT at Wissahickon 

Horace Simmons had another big game for La Salle, scoring 21 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Explorers’ 49-37 win over Norristown on Saturday.

Bryan Rollerson put up 23 points, including 11-for-14 from the free throw line, as Germantown Academy held off Wissahickon 61-57 on Saturday.

Friday:

Horace Simmons paced La Salle with 17 points as the Explorers enjoyed a 48-44 victory over Germantown Academy in Friday’s opener. The Patriots’ Bryce Rollerson had 27 points for the top-scoring performance of the night.

PHOENIXVILLE TIP OFF TOURNAMENT

Matt Robinson tallied 23 points and nine rebounds as Council Rock South topped Kennett 54-42 on Saturday. George O’Brien had a great night facilitating with six assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Archbishop Wood 82,  Downingtown West 56

The Vikings didn’t need any time to shake off the offseason rust as they put up 82 points in their opener. Jalil Bethea led the way with 27 points, including seven 3-pointers.

Bensalem 52, Abington 37

After their best season in recent history, the Owls picked up right where they left off. Antonio Morris’ 22 points secured the win for Bensalem on the road at Abington.

North Penn 65, Freire Charter 30

The Knights more than doubled the score on their opponents in Friday’s opener, with Ryan Deininger leading all scorers with 20 points.
