Tippecanoe School Corp. opens kindergarten registration for next academic year

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe School Corporation has opened its kindergarten registration for the 2022-2023 school year.

TSC asks that parents contact their child's school for specific information regarding school registration. To do so, please refer to the listed school phone numbers below.

In addition to the initial registration process, families must also complete online registration in PowerSchool between July 11-22, according to a release from TSC. This set of time is when TSC opens registration for all grade levels. Each school will provide families with a username and password for PowerSchool.

In order to register, families must provide the school with their child/children's immunization records, proof of residency and legal birth certificate - not the certificate presented by the hospital, the release clarifies - or their passport.

During the online registration, families will need to provide emergency contact information and pay book rental fees in PowerSchool. Once parents contact their school, they will begin to receive information about the upcoming school year, according to the release.

"Children must be five years of age on or before August 1, 2022 to be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten," the release says. "If a parent feels the child is not emotionally mature enough for exposure to the school environment, the family may wait a year before enrolling. If the parent feels the child is ready for kindergarten, but does not meet the birthdate eligibility requirement, the parent may apply to the TSC superintendent."

Parents may access that application here. The superintendent will determine the children's admission based on date of birth and space availability, the release says.

If more applications are received than there are spaces available, children's who birthdates are closest to August 1 may be admitted. If there is no space available or if it is not in the best interest of the school or children, early admission will not be accepted, according to TSC's release.

Sue Scott, communications coordinator for TSC, said in a statement to the J&C, "Getting students enrolled is important for us to properly staff and prepare our schools, especially since this year we had our biggest ever kindergarten class."
