Tips and schedules for Eugene, Springfield, Lane County annual leaf pickups
Leaf pickup in the Eugene-Springfield area is set to begin.
Autumn has blanketed streets and sidewalks with fallen leaves, an annual nuisance when it comes to safety and flooding concerns. County and municipal yard-waste pickup requires locals to gather up the leaves and store them correctly before they're removed.
Lane County has provided preparation tips and collection schedules:
Leaf preparation guidelines
Areas controlled by Lane County and Eugene allow leaves to be piled in the roadway if they are at least 15 feet from parked cars. Residents should not bag the leaves.
In Springfield, leaves need to be placed on the curbside in medium-sized trash bags containing only leaves. Leaves should not be piled in bike lanes, streets or on curbs.
In county-controlled areas, pickup is provided for paved curb-and-gutter streets only.
In Eugene, leaves will be picked up on unimproved streets if machinery can reach the piles from the hard-road surface. Leaves are not picked up from within private yards.

Storm drains and gutters should be left clear of leaf piles to prevent localized flooding.
Other debris, such as branches and pine needles, should not be mixed with leaves.
Wait to put leaves in the street until the weekend prior to collection.
For Eugene
Eugene’s leaf collection and delivery program begins Monday, Nov. 8.
After an initial focus on the central Eugene area, city crews will break into three groups to focus on designated sections of the city, according to a news release. The crews will collect and deliver the leaves, then sweep streets after the leaves have been picked up.
Eugene residents can look up their addresses online to learn when they should pile their leaves in a row parallel to the curb, order leaf deliveries or report hazards from leaves.

Central/Core: Saturday, Nov. 6 and Sunday, Nov. 7
Zone 1: Nov. 13 and Nov. 14
Zone 2: Nov. 20 and Nov. 21
Zone 3: Dec. 4 and Dec. 5
Zone 4: Dec. 11 and Dec. 12
Zone 5: Dec. 18 and Dec. 19

The second round of leaf collection begins Jan. 3.
For Springfield
Leaves in Springfield are collected in two rounds in an east-west division marked by 28th and 31st streets. Bags need to be placed by 7 a.m. Monday of the scheduled week for collection in that area, although the leaf bags may not be picked up for several days.
Sanipac is contracted to pick up, haul and recycle bagged leaves.
Springfield residents also can pledge to properly dispose of their leaves for a chance to win one of two $100 gift cards from a local home improvement store. Springfield residents can view this year’s informational flyer online for more details on how to enter.
Schedule information:
The first round of leaf collection starts west of 28th Street/31st Street on Nov. 29.
Leaf pickup will move on to areas east of 28th Street/31st Street on Dec. 6.

For county-controlled areas
Lane County Public Works will begins leaf pickup Monday, Nov. 8.
The county collects leaves in two rounds in two general areas: Santa Clara north of Beltline Highway and several Springfield locations generally just outside the city limits.
Lane County crews may be working in some zones prior to official collection dates if time allows but also will return to that zone as scheduled, according to a news release.
Zone A is in Santa Clara west of River Road. Zone B is in Santa Clara east of River Road. The areas on the outskirts of Springfield all are considered part of Zone C.
Schedule information:
First round schedule
Zone A: Monday, Nov. 8 through Wednesday, Nov. 10
Zone B: Nov. 15-18
Zone C: Nov. 22 to Nov. 25
Second round schedule
Zone A: Nov. 29 to Dec. 2
Zone B: Dec. 6-9
Zone C: Dec. 13-16
