Tips on how to secure scholarships as college costs rise

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Attending college has always been expensive, and the costs have been increasing lately. However, students should be aware that there are numerous scholarships available at the moment that you can apply for.

Christina Lindley, based in Las Vegas, is part of Bold.org, the largest independent scholarship provider in the United States.

The site awarded students more than $4 million worth of scholarships last year and anticipates double that amount this year.

“We are a free scholarship platform for students who can come as young as 13, sign up for an account where they are able to apply for exclusive scholarships,” she said.

Bold.org is highly rated because scholarships are exclusive to the platform, so the chances of winning one are higher, she added.

When you visit the website, you’ll find that filling out your application is a breeze. All you need to provide are some basic details, such as your test scores, GPA, areas of interest, and the college level you’re interested in. Additionally, most of the applications don’t require an essay.

Scholarships are awarded year-round, with some closing as soon as the end of January.
The sooner you apply, the more likely you are to secure one.
There are also a host of other platforms that offer scholarships: Including Careeronestop, Fastweb, Peterson’s, Cappex, Scholly, Niche, and Scholarship Owl.
But as a whole, Lindley says not enough people apply, “Sadly there are more than $100 million each year in scholarships that go unrewarded due to a lack of applicants. Similarly two billion dollars in student grants go unclaimed every year.”

Private organizations, athletes, and celebrities also sponsor scholarships through bold.Org
They range from $1,000 up to $20,000 and $50,000. The key is to research who is offering the scholarship.

“Look at why the scholarship was created, and who the people are who will be reviewing it, so you can speak to that, focus on scholarships that are very specific to who you are as a person,” she added.

On Bold.Org, anyone can create a scholarship or a fund page for free.
