Tipton County teacher investigated, accused of inappropriate contact with children

COVINGTON, Tenn. — A Tipton County teacher is under investigation by law enforcement after allegations of inappropriate contact with children under 18.

The teacher’s name is Alissa McCommon, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Tipton County Schools Superintendent Dr. John Combs confirmed McCommon was a teacher at Charger Academy this year but was previously a teacher at Crestview Elementary. McCommon was suspended without pay Aug. 24, he said.

That morning, Combs said a parent came to him with allegations leading to McCommon’s suspension.

Wednesday, Police Chief Donna Turner told WREG there are multiple victims under the age of 18 have also come forward with allegations. She would not comment on whether the alleged victims are students at either school or how long the alleged misconduct has been going on.

“As a seasoned detective, I can say there’s no more cases that are more troubling to anybody to have to work than when you have an authority figure that possibly has breached a trust that this community has given her,” Turner said.

Authorities did not say that any arrest had been made or any charges filed.

We knocked on the address listed for McCommon to see if she wanted to respond to the allegations but no one answered the door.

Chief Turner said the focus is on finding other juveniles who may have had contact with McCommon so they can get them help and file charges against her.

“If someone does have information about it or they think if they talk to their child and think they have been a possible victim or even a witness of inappropriate behavior, then we ask that you contact if you’re in the county contact Tipton County Sheriff’s Office or the Covington Police Department if you’re in the city of Covington,” Turner said.

The investigation is a joint operation between the sheriff’s office, Covington Police and the 25^th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office.
