'Tis the season to shop local

Nov. 24—ASHLAND — With 40 local businesses set to partner with Visit AKY today, seasonal shoppers will not only have access to ample gift options, but an opportunity to support their own community.

As corporate and chain stores fill to the brim for the foreseeable future, Visit AKY has concocted Shop Small Saturday, an all-day event that will keep local businesses just as full.

Local art galleries, boutiques, gift shops and memorabilia destinations make up Saturday's line up, providing one-of-a-kind gifts that can't be mass produced or replicated in most instances, making possible holiday gifts that much more special.

Through Shop Local Saturday, shoppers will see the hands who made, designed or sourced their desired gifts and also see how shopping local can bolster the economy.

Participating locations include: 4 O'Clock Rock Guitar Shop, Amy's Art (in Camayo Arcade,) Aladdin's Art Gallery, Ashland Outlet & Bins, Bare Arms, Bella Boutique, Best Friends Fabric and More, Bluegrass Sports Cards, Bluegrass Collectors, Broadway Books, Christian Alexander Home, Conquest Books, Don's Men's Shop, Float 606, Gathered AKY, Gillum Drug, Gr8r Gaming, Highlands Museum Gift Shop, Holly B's Jewelry & Gifts, Identity Salon & Spa, Inner Geek, Jesse Stuart Gift Foundation Shop, Jessica Pack Esthetic, Lamplighter, The Lemon Frog, Local Mercantile, Marlee Jo's, Melanie's Bowtique, Merle Norman Boutique, Pam's Primitives, Pollock's Jewelers, Pretty & Poised, Second Hand Rose Boutiques, Shield of Faith Boutique, SoAsh Haberdash, Symmetry, Teal Creek Creations, Time Warp, Trinity Boutique and Uptown Glamour Boutique.

In addition to locally owned shops, Shop Local Saturday also provides a list of eateries in case one works up an appetite while crossing off their gift giving list.
