Titans remain outside top 10 in Touchdown Wire’s power rankings
The Tennessee Titans’ pair of wins have been relatively sloppy in contests that shouldn’t have come down to the last minute like they did.
In the past two contests, Tennessee’s victories have come down to the team being saved by a defensive effort and Stephen Gostkowski, though last game was a total redemption game for him after he posted an incredibly poor Titans debut.
But the fact of the matter is that the team is 2-0 and atop the AFC South as the only undefeated team in the division.
When Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar released his NFL power rankings this week, the Titans sat at No. 11 overall, which is three spots higher than they were last week.
Here’s a look at what Farrar had to say about the ranking:
Why do we have a picture of former MLB slugger Dave Kingman here instead of, say, Ryan Tannehill? Because in both 1979 and 1982, Kingman led the major leagues in both home runs and strikeouts, and right now, that’s the best way to describe Titans kicker Stephen Gostkowski. In the 2020 season opener against the Broncos, Gostkowski missed three field goals before kicking the game-winner. In the follow-up against the Jaguars on Sunday, he missed an extra point, but managed to make both of his field goals, including the 49-yard game-winner with 1:43 left. Gostkowski has to be giving head coach Mike Vrabel all kinds of heartburn with his strikeouts, but he does manage to hit the home runs when they’re required.
Farrar makes a fine point about Tannehill, who has been nearly perfect this year as he silences the doubters who thought 2019 could have just been a fluke season for him.
The Titans will look to maintain their perfect record as they take on the Minnesota Vikings on the road at noon CST on Sunday.
