Today: Orange County reopening $1,000 check applications for residents affected by COVID-19

Tuesday morning will be one of the last chances for Orange County, COVID-19 affected residents to apply for a one time $1,000 stimulus check.

The CARES application will open at 8 a.m. allowing 15,000 users to apply and submit a claim for a stimulus check meant to help anyone whose financial livelihood was affected by COVID-19.

If a resident has already received a check, they are not applicable to receive another.

However, Orange County now allows multiple applicants per household to apply for funding. Applicants will not be granted the check if they have previously received one.

Applicants must be an Orange County resident to qualify and provide the following: proof they’ve been financially impacted because of COVID-19, have both a photo ID and Social Security card, and submit documentation of loss of income, which could include pay stubs or an employer notice of reduced hours, layoffs or furloughs.

If applicants are approved they will be notified by email.

The $20 million program is funded by the Federal CARES Act, which has been allotted locally and through the Florida Housing CARES Act – Coronavirus Relief Funds.

Orange County has offered the stimulus checks several times since June, but the portal has closed within the first hour every time due to the high volume of applicants the website receives at the start time.

During the last occasion the county opened the portal, on Nov. 16, access to applications closed after about 30 minutes when the website reached its 15,000 applicant capacity.

To submit an application, residents should visit the Orange County website.
