Public can comment on proposed improvements to North Loop Road

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The public can weigh in on potential improvements along North Loop Road in the Lower Valley.

Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Texas Department of Transportation El Paso District will host an in-person public meeting with a virtual option for the FM 76 (North Loop Drive) Feasibility Study.

The meeting will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert R. Rojas Elementary School Cafeteria, 500 Bauman Road.

The study is being conducted to identify potential improvements to Farm-to-Market (FM) 76 (North Loop Drive) from FM 1281 (Horizon Boulevard) in Socorro to State Highway (SH) 20 (Alameda Avenue) in Fabens.

That’s approximately 12.5 miles of FM 76.

This public meeting represents the second round for the study.

Last February, TxDOT held a public meeting to introduce the study and solicit feedback from the public. Based on the comments received and further analysis, TxDOT has developed recommendations.

The purpose of the upcoming public meeting is to present the recommended conceptual alternative and the short, mid, and long-term corridor improvements and to provide an opportunity for the public to share feedback, according to a news release sent out by TxDOT.

You can also participate using a virtual option that includes both audio and visual components.

The “virtual room” will be available starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Virtual attendees will be able to view the same materials and information shown at the in-person meeting.

To log onto the virtual option, you go to www.txdot.gov and enter “FM 76 (North Loop Drive) Feasibility Study” in the keyword search box.

Note that the virtual room will not be on the website until the time and date listed above and will remain available for viewing at the web address indicated above until Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 11:59 p.m. MT.

Both the in-person public meeting and virtual option will be available in English and Spanish. Written comments from the public may be submitted by mail to ICF, Attn: FM 76 North Loop Dr, 5 Lakeway Centre Court, Suite 200, Austin, TX 78734.

Written comments may also be submitted by email to NorthLoopFeasibilityStudy@icf.com. All comments must be received on or before Wednesday, Feb. 21. Responses to comments received will be available online at www.txdot.gov once they have been prepared.
