Here we go again

The May 29 issue of the Daily Commercial printed a letter that trashed the Republican Party with a disparaging narrative that left one reading it with no doubt as to the author's political persuasion. Me? Well, it also brought to mind what President Ronald Reagan said: “Here we go again.”

The writer is well known for his letters to the editor and the columns he writes for the Daily Commercial. He calls himself an independent yet never criticizes the Democratic left, only the Republican Party. Since that's the case, it would be more accurate to classify him as a left-leaning Democrat disguised as an Independent.

He writes of dog whistles and latent white racism, and lumps them with what he incorrectly calls a "small" sovereign nation crowd (nothing small about it). He goes on to invoke the name of Jesus Christ in an attempt to legitimize the invasion by millions of people who have no right to be in this country, and finishes his rant proclaiming our American flag is a symbol of white racism.

His own words condemn him as a person who thinks it's healthy for large corporations to use children's shows to indoctrinate young children in sexual matters — some might call it grooming. There is no question he is in favor of teaching CRT; you know, that theory that everything revolves around race and all whites are racist.

I guess Reagan was right: "Here we go again.”

Weather warnings

As Hurricane Agatha crossed Mexico earlier this month, speculation began on what would happen to the remains of the storm once they entered the Gulf. Those remains were very disorganized, and they were assigned an “invest’ number for monitoring.

Those remains for the first few days continued to be referred to by their invest number until about mid-week when those same remains, with no apparent meteorological changes, were suddenly referred to as a “potential tropical cyclone” (PTC). I think this confused many people because they were not sure what a PTC was.

Well, it seems a PTC means that at least a minimal tropical storm was expected to form and make landfall within 48 hours. The National Weather Service could then issue tropical storm warnings — which they did — across southern Florida for something that was now a “potential” to form. To be totally accurate, they should be issuing “potential” tropical storm warnings since they are basing their decisions on something that is now potential, the PTC. Confusing, eh?

This PTC never did develop into a tropical storm as it approached the state while tropical storm warnings continued to be displayed across southern Florida. So, in reality, warnings existed for something that never occurred.

I realize meteorology is not an exact science, but it seems to me the National Weather Service is complicating an already difficult situation by introducing the term “potential tropical cyclone” that very few people understand. Why not just issue “tropical storm watches” and upgrade to warnings if a storm ever develops? Just keep it simple — and more accurate.

Political cartoon

Once again a political cartoon was a gross distortion of the actual issue, which is indoctrination of 5- to 8-year- old children in our schools. How did we come so far from teaching reading, writing and arithmetic to sex education and gender identity taught in kindergarten! The bias of the Daily Commercial is astounding!
