Today's letters: Readers comment on Roe v Wade and the Jan. 6 hearings

Women’s rights

The Taliban are alive and well, live in Washington, D.C., and wear black robes. How long will it be before burqa will be worn by women in public in America like those in Afghanistan? Just the first step in chip, chip, chipping away at women's rights. It would be a different story if men bore the children, I'm sure.

Jan. 6 hearings

"I am thinking about getting on the pardon list, if it is still in the works," said the crooked Trump lawyer Eastman to the Trump organization after the attack on the Capitol. As he pleaded the Fifth Amendment 100 times in his deposition to the Jan. 6 commission, he knew he was going to need a criminal lawyer. He had been told that by another Trump attorney already. What have the three public hearings revealed already? Trump, the vicious, lying, conman grifter, is a more evil human being than even Richard Nixon. Yes, with videotaped depositions, text messages and interviews, the commission has shown proof that there was no election fraud. On the contrary, there was a coordinated conspiracy now traceable to the Commander in Chief himself. Aided by his chief of staff, a Supreme Court justice and his wife (Ginni Thomas), and dozens of Republican politicians, the coup was nearly successful! Wait until we hear exactly who the Republican politicians are who asked for pardons!

I have strongly berated Trump supporters in the past for their ignorance about his behavior, but I do know that he has some supporters who are good, decent people — they are not all crazies. The problem is, his supporters do not appear to watch actual news channels. Just the other night, I switched to Fox News to get my weekly taste of "garbage in, garbage out.”

I had the misfortune of hearing Greg Gutfeld describe the Jan. 6 attack on our Capitol as simply an "unguided tour." I threw up and changed the channel. Anyone who watches any mainstream news channel knows better! After Trump's Attorney General Barr told him there was no evidence of voter fraud in the 2020 election, Trump said the FBI and the Department of Justice were probably in on it!! Barr told Trump his accusations were false and "BS" — then quit. Remember, Trump said after the Jan. 6 attack that the mob were peaceful, loving people and he never saw so much love in the air. I may be getting sick again.

Trump was a president of “nevers” for our nation. We never had a president impeached twice, never had one incite a riot on government buildings, never had one to try to overthrow a legal election, never had the peaceful transfer of power interrupted by such violence, never had a sitting president try to influence his vice president to not certify the electoral votes as required in our Constitution, never had a president encourage a mob to hang his VP, and never had a president refuse to send in the troops to protect American citizens.

Listen to the words of respected Judge Michael Luttig: "Trump supporters, past and present, have put our country in clear and present danger." Meanwhile, the big liar is continuing with lies today denying he ever tried to get the vice president to throw out the election!
