Today's letters: Readers comment on school curriculum, the WHO, the Second Amendment, more

School curriculum

Florida’s future school curriculum, methodically orchestrated by right-wing Christian nationalists with deference to power in service to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ambition, is riddled with offensive transgression of facts under the guise of American civics. This course of study comes off as a haphazardly random catch-as-catch-can cover-up of fabricated reckless and vain tyrannical theocratic instincts.

Children should understand why racial discrimination is wrong, that climate change is a serious global problem, and that the GOP’s version of why 18 million military grade AR15 weapons that glut the streets of America for mass shooting mayhem should be unacceptable. Children should understand why we pledge allegiance to the cause of commitment to citizenship honoring “E Pluribus Unum” — out of many one — even as we are dealing with state-by-red-state legislators allowing Old Glory’s stars to fall from the flag in corrupt desolation.

And, most importantly, children should understand whether their votes, when they are old enough to vote, will count!

The WHO and health care

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization (part of the United Nations) believes there is only “one world,” so there should only be “one health organization” in charge: Theirs!

The Biden administration, who quietly introduced 13 new amendments at their meeting during this year's May meeting in Geneva, agrees! Fortunately, the amendments didn’t pass, but WHO is not giving up. They plan on re-introducing them in the upcoming September meeting.

Ultimately, WHO wants charge of your health care! But they won’t admit to that just yet. First, they need to take control of larger issues — like a future COVID pandemic — that give them total authority over emergency operations in the United States. But it’s not just health issues that are up for control here.

WHO believes global warming, gun control and even racism should be considered health issues, with them issuing orders that the whole world must follow. And, if they can get two-thirds of a future U.S. Senate signing off on a treaty, they believe they will ultimately get their way.

Progressives believe a treaty takes precedent over the U.S. Constitution. Neither states nor our federal government will have a say in future health issues. If that’s not socialist and even communism, I don’t know what is. Google “The WHO pandemic treaty.”

Who supports and controls the policies at WHO? The People's Republic of China, big pharmacology companies, Bill Gates and President Biden, among others.

With the support of the mainstream media, and the decline of our daily newspapers, most of America no longer knows what’s happening in America, let alone the world.

Don’t be surprised if you wake up some morning and find that someone on the other side of the world is now in control of your health care.

The right to bear arms

Well, here we go again. While I watched the events unfold at the July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, I thought, this could be anywhere in the USA. While the immoral legislators who count themselves as Trump GOP will be quick to send their thoughts and prayers, I am sending my rage — my absolute burning hot rage. Now, I am going to tell you why. This is the full text of the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

We have the best militia in the world — our well-regulated military. However, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” does not mean anyone who desires to own a weapon of mass destruction, oversized ammunition clips, flamethrowers or any other weapon of war is perfectly fine; and now, in many states, you can openly carry that weapon wherever you choose, without permits and without training. Let me say, the Supreme 6 (as I call them), see rights for the NRA and gun-holders wherever they look; but when it comes to rights for any human to have control over their own bodies, nary a word can be found. The NRA and the Supremes have expanded guns rights over and over again, and citizens’ rights have been diminished over and over again. Plus, to most GOP members, climate change is a joke even though most of them have children and grandchildren who will suffer the consequences of their inaction.

With most of the high courts compromised and the Trump GOP, who have no empathy and no integrity – just the need for power and money — I have little hope for my country. As to the letter writers who disparage Democrats, remember when you point your finger at someone, there are three pointing back at you.

No to schools safety tax

In response to the article about the Lake County schools safety tax on the ballot, this public safety act is a state mandate program and, as such, the state should pay for it. Besides — and more importantly — the state hasn’t done anything constructive to curb gun violence except make it easier to own and carry a gun. Since the state and the NRA contribute to the gun problem, they should be responsible for the cost to protect our school kids, not us taxpayers who already pay enough taxes. So, I urge you to vote “no” in November.

Independent audit needed

I was appalled and deeply disturbed by the front-page article concerning the Lake County school “safety tax.” The 2021-22 budget for Lake County schools is $873,984,008, according to the Daily Commercial on July 23. This works out to $2,394,476.73 per day for 365 days. The fiscal malfeasance and management inability of the school board to not have the ability to fund school safety given the amount of taxpayer funds they have to work with is truly disappointing.

A course of action taken by the board should be an outside independent audit with results open to public view that the average taxpayer can understand without the use of a CPA.

The real estate owners of Lake County who pay for the schools through real estate taxes deserve better.
