Todd Chrisley Takes to Instagram to Give Major Update About the Investigation Against Him
The Chrisley family is making headlines again, and this time Todd Chrisley took to social media to share news about the ongoing investigation against him from the Georgia Department of Revenue.
After a year and a half of ongoing drama involving the now-former Georgia Department of Revenue employee Josh Waites, the reality show star shared two back-to-back celebratory Instagram posts on Wednesday, September 22. "The office of the Inspector General has released their findings after an investigation that has spanned over the last year and a half. These findings prove everything we have said, since this trail for deceit and lies began, is the truth," Chrisley wrote.
The lengthy post goes on to outline findings from the State of Georgia Office of the Inspector General’s investigation, which began in early 2020 after the Chrisleys' lawyer raised allegations against Waites, who was the director of the Office of Special Investigations at the Georgia Department of Revenue at the time. Waites was instrumental in helping federal agents bring charges against Todd and his wife Julie, including bank and tax fraud in August 2019.
Among other crimes, the full 32-page report finds that Waites illegally used federal databases to obtain information, and, along with other state employees, “committed a variety of ethical and regulatory violations"; the OSI created an office slush fund from money seized in tax investigations and practiced “clearly wasteful” spending on everything from Fitbits to a Ford truck; and includes a section of shocking text message photos of Waites posing on a bed and chair seized from the Chrisleys.
“By posing on the Chrisley’s furniture, Director Waites and other senior DOR leadership undermined DOR’s ability to maintain a position of impartiality in the enforcement of state laws. Further, acting in this manner harmed DOR’s professional reputation and lends credence to Todd Chrisley’s complaints that he was unfairly targeted for investigation due to his ‘celebrity status.’ Based on these findings, OIG substantiated the allegation.”
Fans came on strong with their support for the Chrisleys after he shared these messages. "Finally! It’s great to see some vindication for your family," one person wrote. "Never doubted this would come to light!! I love your family and my prayer is justice is served," said another. "I’m sorry you’ve had to go through all this hell and unnecessary aggravation but the truth will always prevail. Good for you, Todd," one more chimed in.
According to the September 21 Office of the Inspector General’s report, several matters regarding Waites’ involvement have been referred to the Office of the Attorney General for criminal prosecution. However, it doesn't seem the Chrisleys are out of the woods yet. According to WSB-TV Atlanta, Todd and Julie are still facing federal tax and banking charges.
