Todd McShay believes Ohio State should still be in the College Football Playoff

As good as Ohio State has looked in the past several weeks, it did not look the part of title contender against Michigan on Saturday. It seemed the Buckeyes were not as well prepared as their arch-rival, and to be honest, it looked like the Wolverines just wanted it more.

There could be a variety of factors that played into the OSU loss. The weather was less than ideal and C.J. Stroud was apparently dealing with some kind of illness. Either way, Ohio State’s regular season is over with another L in the loss column. Playoff chances down the drain as well, right?

Well, ESPN college football reporter and draft analyst, Todd McShay doesn’t seem to want to let go of that idea just yet. McShay tweeted out that if it comes down to Cincinnati and Ohio State, he believes the Buckeyes should get the nod.

As you might imagine, McShay is getting blasted with almost 3,000 responses. Most disagree with his take, while a few support the idea. McShay, who has had some bizarre moments in recent years, may just be trying to get controversy started on social media, but he seems to be quickly losing credibility at the same time.

As much as we might have wanted to see Ohio State compete for another national title, I have to say I can’t agree with McShay on this one. While the Buckeyes might be a better team on paper, they did not prove it on the field of play this season. Isn’t that why they play the games? It’s one thing to say you’re the best and it’s something completely different to go out and prove it.

Is Ohio State still one of the most talented teams in the country? Absolutely! But they won’t be playing for a national championship this season. Instead, the Buckeyes will most likely be playing in the Rose Bowl… which sadly feels like an underwhelming consolation prize.
