Toddler dies after he’s pinned between electric mattress and bed frame, NE officials say

An 18-month-old boy died after becoming trapped by an automated mattress, Nebraska officials told news outlets.

Authorities responded to a 911 call from a home in La Vista, a suburb of Omaha, at about 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office told WOWT. Area police and firefighters also responded.

The toddler was in critical condition when deputies arrived at the scene, KLKN reported.

He was taken to a hospital where he died, the sheriff’s office told the outlet.

An investigation revealed the child died due to suffocation after he was pinned between an electric mattress and a bed frame, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

The investigation is still underway, but officials say the death appears to have been an accident, the newspaper reported.

La Vista is roughly 50 miles northeast of downtown Lincoln.
