Toddlers Were The Main Attraction At Seoul Fashion Week - And That’s A Little Scary

Seoul Fashion Week has just happened and, like any fashion week, it was filled with weird and wonderful style - both on and off the runway. At any fashion week, street style is one of the best parts of the whole extravaganza but in Seoul it was the shockingly young age of the street style stars that’s caught the world’s attention - not the front rows filled to the brim with K-pop stars.
Children at fashion events is nothing new: They took to the catwalk at Julien MacDonald’s London Fashion Week show and have sat FROW at numerous shows. But Seoul appears to have upped the child style icon game as judging by reports, you could barely going anywhere without spotting a sartorially-savvy youngster.
“It really was those kids who stole the limelight,” Caroline Issa, editor of Tank Magazine, told The Telegraph. “There are certainly a lot of very very fashion forward little children being dressed up by the mums and thrust into the spotlight outside the shows.”
And that, right there, is the worrying part. This isn’t a case of Harper Beckham perching on her dad’s knee at her mum’s New York Fashion Week show - this seems like a lot of parents in Seoul planted their pint-sized tots outside shows just to be photographed.

Street style photographer Alex Finch, who’s been attending this particular Fashion Week for years, told The Telegraph that “there are definitely more [small children] this year.”
“I think they know that people will take their picture and seeing as most of them are wearing items from local online kids stores, it’s a good way for them to get promotion for the brands, as well as the ‘models’ themselves.”

And the children were certainly dressed up to the nines. Wearing everything from New York baseball jackets to tailored suits, complete with bow ties, hats and sunglasses, to full-on camo outfits, each toddler was more dolled up than the last.
There’s no denying the fact that they all looked as cute as a button - but you have to wonder how many of them actually wanted to be there.
