Tokyo art exhibition uses umbrellas to social distance

Ever used an umbrella…to stay healthy?

Location: Tokyo, Japan

This art exhibition is handing them out as a social distancing tool

Kazuhisa Kusaba came up with the idea

after his grandchildren were advised by their teachers

to hold umbrellas to social distance while commuting to school

(SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 62-YEAR-OLD ARTIST, KAZUHISA KUSABA, SAYING:

"When I was thinking of a way to thoroughly protect oneself and others, I came up with the idea of an umbrella, since there will always be enough space in between people within the area of an opened umbrella."

(SOUNDBITE) (Japanese) 63-YEAR-OLD OFFICE WORKER, KAZUHIKO KAWAKUBO, SAYING:

"The number of umbrellas can limit the number of people entering the venue. In that sense, it will not be packed, so I thought it was a very unique way to hold an exhibition."
