Toledo football players add to watch list count

Jul. 30—Watch list season is still in full swing, and the Toledo Rockets are in the mix.

Punter Bailey Flint was named to the Ray Guy Award and Wuerffel Trophy watch lists.

The Ray Guy Award goes to the nation's top punter, while the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Flint, who was named to the watch list for both awards last season, is entering his fifth season as Toledo's starting punter. His best year came in 2019 when he was averaging 47.3 yards per punt until a season-ending injury.

The Australian has been active in the community during his time at UT, participating in Victory Day, which offers students with special needs a chance to spend an afternoon with the Rockets; the "Feed My Starving Children" program; "No One Eats Alone" program at Longfellow Elementary School; after school program at Central Trail Elementary; reading programs at REACH Academy; Dr. Seuss Day at Burroughs Elementary; spelling bees and science fairs at Rosa Parks Elementary; Toledo Boys and Girls Club; WTOL Holiday Toy Drive; free school lunch program during recent school closures; "Welcome Back to School" day at Summit Academy; the St. Francis of the Tejas food pantry; and the Fueling Tomorrows recruitment program at UT.

Flint also volunteers his time with punting lessons for local high school punters.

He graduated with bachelor's degrees in media communications and theater and is currently pursuing a master's degree in liberal studies with a focus on theater.

Senior center Bryce Harris was named to the Outland Trophy watch list for the third consecutive season. The Outland is awarded to the nation's best interior lineman.

Harris, who is also on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center, was first-team All-MAC in 2020 and second-team All-MAC in 2018. He missed the 2019 season due to injury.

Junior defensive lineman Desjuan Johnson was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list, which is awarded to college football's top defensive player. Only four MAC players made the list.

Johnson had 27 tackles, including eight tackles for loss and three sacks in the shortened 2020 season, earning second-team All-MAC honors.
