Toll Gate, Portsmouth, Cumberland chalk up wins on Opening Day of HS baseball

BASEBALL

Division I

Toll Gate 5, South Kingstown 4

Dylan Perreault singled in Jamie Luna in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Titans walked off with the victory in the Division I game. Luna had a pair of hits in the contest and drove in two runs. Dom Calise also had two hits and he scored twice. Connor Kelly had a triple and scored a run for the Rebels.

Portsmouth 4, Mt. Hope 1

Caleb Banks and John Mass combined for 5 of Portsmouth's 7 hits and both scored a run apiece as the Patriots upended the Huskies. Mass pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Oliver Rey came on in the fifth inning and finished the game to earn the save.

Brad Denson took the loss for Mt. Hope and teammate Parker Camelo went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense.

Cumberland 1, Central 0

The Clippers edged the Knights in a pitcher's duel, with Charlie Tarara's third-inning double driving in the sole run of the game.

Michael Bradshaw struck out 8, walked 5 and scattered 4 hits over six innings to earn the victory. Shayne Godin notched the save, striking out a pair and allowing a hit and a walk in the seventh. Central's Justin Odsen took the loss, despite a solid five innings, with a walk and 2 strikeouts.

Cumberland's Connor Allard went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Eastern Independent League

Portsmouth Abbey 13, Wheeler 3

Matt Parella had three hits, including a homerun, and he drove in 5 runs, and Levi Maguire pitched four strong innings while striking out 9 as Portsmouth Abbey as powered its way past Wheeler in the EIL. Grayson Sparr went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in all three runs for Wheeler in the loss.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division II

Prout 7, Coventry 2

Liam McIntosh scored two goals and assisted two others and teammate Mark Belcher also scored twice and added an assist as Prout rolled to victory over Coventry. The Crusaders were busy in its offensive end as Oakers' goalie Neal Benjamin was forced to make 18 saves. Ronin Cardarelli and Collin King scored a goal apiece in the loss.

Division III

Toll Gate 11, Narragansett 4

Sean Mullaney scored five goals and assisted on two others as the Titans jumped out to a 5-2 lead and cruised to a road victory over the Mariners.

Nonleague

Rogers 19, East Providence 1

Chase Arment scored 6 goals assisted on three others and Dylan Walker scored 5 goals with 2 assists as the Vikings crushed East Providence. Also contributing to the win were David Rivera, who scored 3 times and added 3 helpers and Jack Matthews who had the hattrick.

Matt Patrone had the only goal for the Townies.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Division I

Lincoln 15, Prout 6

Juliana Casey, Ella Brown and Sydney Boss each scored 4 goals as Lincoln rolled to victory over Prout.

Leading the way for Prout was Ella Niedelman who had a recorded a hattrick in the loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Division II

West Warwick 5, Classical 2

West Warwick's Derek Petrarca and Brooke Williamson were pushed to the limit but ultimately prevailed in their second doubles match, defeating Patrick Collins and Mike Ramos, 6-0, 5-7, 6-0, and clinching the Division II match, which started on Friday but had to be suspended because of inclement weather.
