Tolland avenges loss to East Hartford

Oct. 15—The Tolland High boys soccer team couldn't hold serve at home against East Hartford on Sept. 22, suffering a two-goal loss to its CCC East rival.

The Eagles returned the favor Friday in East Hartford.

Luke McCarthy's goal with 3:09 remaining in the first half broke a 1-all tie and propelled visiting Tolland to a 2-1 victory in a game that did not count toward the league standings.

East Hartford beat Tolland 2-0 in the teams' first meeting.

Cole Anderson scored unassisted six minutes into the game to give Tolland (6-3-2) a 1-0 lead. Julius McNeil knotted the score at one with a goal 4:46 before halftime, setting the stage for McCarthy's score just over a minute later.

Carson Merluzzo assisted on McCarthy's goal. Noah Hill made three saves in net.

Lesly Pinthiere had five saves for the Hornets (6-3-2).

Both teams return to action Tuesday. Tolland hosts Enfield, while East Hartford visits East Catholic.

ENFIELD 2, EAST CATHOLIC 0. In Manchester, first-half goals by Charlie Polmatier and Traizen Griffith gave Enfield the CCC East win.

Matt Daries set up Polmatier's goal while Brennen Archer had the assist on Griffith's goal. Lucas Wachtel had five saves for Enfield (4-4-3) while Justin Abbamonte had five saves for East Catholic (2-7-2). Jeremiah Jackson and Brayden Aston also played well for the hosts.

East Catholic hosts East Hartford Tuesday, the same day Enfield entertains Tolland.

SOUTH WINDSOR 3, ROCKY HILL 0. Kyle Sullivan made five saves for his fourth straight shutout and eighth in 10 games as South Windsor, ranked No. 8 in the coaches Class LL/L poll, remained unbeaten in CCC interdivisional play.

Rocky Hill (7-3-2) was shut out for the second time this season.

After a scoreless first half, Ben Tortora scored twice in a 3:50 span to put the Bobcats (8-0-2) ahead 2-0 with 32:26 left. Drew Monteserin added the final goal.

South Windsor is at Lewis Mills Monday.

AVON 3, RHAM 2. In Hebron, Ryan St. Onge's second-half goal capped a rally from a two-goal deficit as Avon pulled out a CCC interdivisional victory.

RHAM (4-3-3) took a 2-0 lead on goals by Bradley Lim and Truman Brodeur, both assisted by Cooper Halotek Avon (4-3-3) got two goals from Braden Gilbey in a 2:24 span to tie it at the break before St. Onge netted the game-winner for the Falcons.

SOMERS 2, STAFFORD 1. In Stafford, Tom Lesco's goal with 4:45 gave Somers the NCCC win that qualified the Spartans (6-3-2) for the Class S state tournament.

Somers' Jack Olearcek and Stafford's Cole Hasel exchanged first-half goals to set the stage for the Spartans' senior. Owen Argiro made three saves in goal for Somers while Josh Tuller had 15 saves for the Bulldogs (3-7-1).

ROCKVILLE 7, WINDSOR LOCKS 0. In Windsor Locks, Sebastian Patino scored four goals in Rockville's NCCC win.

Nick Clapp added two goals for the Rams (6-5-1), who earned a Class L state tournament berth. Luke Woodward also scored. Abdullah Chaudhry made seven saves for the shutout. Windsor Locks (1-9-0) received eight saves from Javion Laboy.

WINDSOR 3, AEROSPACE 1. At Jack O'Brien Stadium, Heber Garcia, Nigel Martin and Makai Badeau scored goals in Windsor's non-league win.

The Warriors (4-5-3) snapped a six-game winless streak. Goalie Travis Samuda had one save.
