One of the greatest players in the NFL, if not the greatest player of all time, has called it a career.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who retired briefly last offseason, has announced his final retirement. He took to social media to film a heartfelt video to announce it.
His greatness will never be matched after 23 seasons, 10 Super Bowl appearances and seven championships.
His retirement means a couple of things for the Cardinals.
One is how he won’t affect the NFC West. Because he was set to become a free agent, there was the threat of him signing with a team like the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners have quarterback questions and he grew up loving the team. They were one game short of the Super Bowl with a seventh-round rookie at quarterback. Adding Brady would immediately make them title favorites.
Alas, that won’t happen now.
It also means that he will almost assuredly be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2028, his first year of eligibility. Defensive lineman J.J. Watt, who finished his career with the Cardinals and announced his retirement, will certainly join him.
That will be one star-studded Hall of Fame induction.
