Tom Brady playing catch with Jugs machine is fake, but incredible
TAMPA ― Tom Brady is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history with a career 64-percent completion percentage.
It may seem like he could throw a football through a key hole, but he can’t.
Still, Brady’s latest stunt, posted on Twitter by Brady Sunday, the first day of training camp, and shared all over social media the past couple of days, stirred a lot of debate. He unveiled a video shot at UCLA of him playing catch with a Jugs machine.
These machines are generally fed footballs (and sometimes baseballs) from behind the spinning wheels before forcing a high-velocity throw.
They’re typically used by receivers to work on catching the football or in baseball for batting practice.
But as good as Brady is at passing the football, he had help pulling this off.
A hint that it was a stunt was when Brady tagged Ari Faraooy, a videographer who credited himself as the director of the video and producer of the video effects.
Then an online personality known as Captain Disillusion broke down how the CGI video was edited.
It’s not that Brady couldn’t throw a football in the same spot three out of three times. But the machine has to be manually loaded. Also, he pointed to the blurry background just above the machine as proof that it was digitally edited. The cord to the machine appears to slide across the grass after the machine falls.
By the way, in case you saw Brady’s earlier video several weeks ago, he isn’t able to strike the moon with a football, either.
But you give him a E for entertainment.
