Tom Holland has admitted to a "mistake" in his Uncharted performance.

The Marvel actor plays a young Nathan Drake in the movie prequel to the popular video game franchise, which will detail the origins of Drake's friendship with Victor 'Sully' Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg).

A first look at Tom as the iconic treasure hunter emerged last year, with the film set to hit screens in 2022 following several coronavirus-related production delays. But, speaking recently, Tom confessed that he's not entirely happy with his work on Uncharted.

Explaining that he was conscious of looking "good" and "cool" in the movie, Tom lamented the "mistake" that he didn't simply focus on playing the character to the best of his ability. "As soon as you start worrying about 'Do I look good in this shot?' acting becomes something other than playing a character," he told GQ.

"I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I kind of fell under that spell of being 'I want to look good now. I want this to be my cool moment.' I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy – basically be Mark Wahlberg. My character is supposed to be a f**king action hero in this moment!

"Look, I haven't seen it, so I don't know if I succeeded in that. But it was an important lesson learned, because, at times, it was less about 'land a mark and go through this scene' and more about 'land a mark, stand like this and see my bulging biceps...'

"It was a mistake and is something that I will probably never do again."

The comments follow Tom telling Variety's Awards Circuit podcast that his Uncharted role includes the "biggest action sequences" he's "ever been a part of".

He added: "The cuts and bruises and bangs I got from dangling off of wires and falling off of things and all that sort of stuff was ridiculous."

Uncharted will hit cinemas on February 11, 2022.
