Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire biopic has received an exciting update, with the director of Paddington joining the project.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Paul King has signed up to the currently untitled feature, which is set to depict the icon’s career and his relationship with his sister Adele.

The project has been in the works for a while, with Holland first mentioning the role in 2021.

"Oh, I am playing Fred Astaire. The script came in a week ago," he said. “I haven't read it yet, they haven't given it to me. I know that Amy Pascal has the script. She FaceTimed me earlier – I was in the bath – and we had a lovely FaceTime."

Lee Hall, best known for his work on Billy Elliot, will be penning the script for the film, with Holland’s participation serving as a reunion of sorts given the actor got his break playing the character on the stage. There are currently no other actors attached to the project, but King’s involvement is an important step in development.

Holland, who fronts both the Spider-Man and Uncharted franchises, revealed last year that playing the part of the superhero can be challenging during filming.

"I didn't go to the toilet for like 11 hours or something, and I was desperate," he said. "When you wear the harness under the suit – obviously you can't put it over the top because you'll see it, and because the suit is so tight you have to cinch the harness up from the get-go – it means going to the bathroom is a mission.

"I remember, I called my mum up, and I was like, 'I've had a really hard day, I need to go to the toilet. I haven't been to the toilet for 11 hours'," he continued. "Two or three days later, the producers took me aside, and they were like, 'How are your kidneys?'"
