Tom Parker needed The Wanted back together 'to give him strength'

Tom Parker needed The Wanted to get back together again and got strength from the other band members, according to his wife Kelsey.

The 32-year-old spoke to Kate Thornton on White Wine Question Time about her husband's death at just 33 in March this year, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2020.

Parker, who has two children aged three and one, remembered the band's reunion, for a Stand Up To Cancer charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall as being 'massive' for her husband.

She said: "Tom loved work, he loved music. He needed that band to get back together. I think he needed the boys to be behind him again, to feel that strength from them.

"Because obviously, they were his brothers."

She said though the band had had their ups and downs, they did all genuinely really get on.

"I think even for him to get through the whole treatment, just everything. I think the the band getting back together was was massive for him," Parker added.

Thornton said when the band announced their break in 2014, Parker was open about the fact that he was 'going along with' the decision rather than being an instigator in it.

Parker said: "You're thrown in a cramped car, and you're driven around to the ends of the earth. Anyone's gonna get on your nerves, but they genuinely did all really get on.

"And that's why the boys have been amazing now for me."

She said the band are all still in touch with her but she knows their pain at losing Tom will be different from hers.

Parker explained: "They all reach out"

"I just think they don't really know sometimes what to say because what can they say? They're feeling the pain from a different place to me.

"When they get back on stage and sing again, that's just going to be so painful for them."

The actor was a birthing partner for her friend's baby, born this year, and who has been named Tommy after the late singer.

Asked how she coped with bringing a new life into the world at such a tragic time, Parker explained that her journey so far has helped her get to a point where she see that both birth and death are unavoidable in life.

"And both can be magical," she said. "For Tom, I was so scared of him dying. But yet, I found some sort of peace with myself when he did pass, that it was happy, even at the end.

"And then with Tommy being born, it was like a new soul has joined this world."
