Tomatoes, carrots, peas and more: Check out the Nashville area's 2023 farmers market season

Warm weather in Middle Tennessee means the arrival of farmers market season.

In the Nashville area, there is a market for almost every day of the week (all except Monday; we checked). Many of them operate rain or shine and several have programs eligible for SNAP benefit holders.

Here's a list of popular farmers markets in the Nashville area. They are organized by county.

Davidson County

Nashville Farmers Market

While the indoor portion of the Nashville Farmers Market is open year-round, the 2023 season of the outdoor farm sheds is open as of April and operates Friday through Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Where: 900 Rosa L Parks Blvd.

Need to know: Free parking is available on site. Additional information about seasonal produce and vendor availability is online at nashvillefarmersmarket.org/sheds.

12 South Farmers Market

The opening day for the 12 South Farmers Market 2023 season is scheduled for May 2. The market is open every year from May to October.

This season marks the event's 12th year in the neighborhood. Every Tuesday throughout the summer sees the market open from 4-7 p.m.

Where: Sevier Park towards the southern end of the neighborhood.

Need to know: The market usually features live music and food trucks in addition to the weekly cast of growers and vendors.

Wedgewood-Houston Farmers Market

Returning for the second year is the Wedgewood-Houston Farmers Market. Opening day is scheduled for May 3, and the market is open from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 1.

Where: The Outfield, a small green space on Chestnut Street and 4th Avenue South, which also features the refurbished Greer Stadium guitar-shaped scoreboard.

Need to know: Free garage parking is available onsite at 1125 B 4th Ave. S. This year's lineup of vendors includes more than 40 local farmers, bakers and chefs.

Richland Park Farmers Market

The Richland Park Farmers Market celebrated its season opener on April 1 and will be open from 9 a.m.-noon every Saturday through December.

Where: Richland Park on Charlotte Avenue.

Need to know: The market features more than 80 local farmers, bakers, cheese-makers and chefs. There is free parking on site and street parking also available.

East Nashville Farmers Market

The East Nashville Farmers Market hosted its 2023 opening day on April 4. The market takes place 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 31, 2023.

Where: 511 Woodland Street.

Need to know: Free parking is available on the corner of 6th and Main Street and across the street at First Church of the Nazarene, 510 Woodland St.

St. George's Farmers Market

A slightly smaller farmers market serving the Belle Meade area, the St. George farmers market at St. George Episcopal Church is scheduled to host its opening day on May 4. The market will operate 3:30-6 p.m. Thursdays through August.

Where: St. George Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike.

Need to know: Volunteers are needed to help throughout the season. They serve as hosts each Thursday 2:30-5 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. and can visit stgeorgesnashville.org/affiliates for more information.

Vanderbilt Farmers Market

Vanderbilt University Medical Center hosts a small farmers market beginning June 1. This year's season will run until Oct. 26 and take place every Thursday from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Where: Medical Center Plaza.

Need to know: The market features a selection of produce, bakery and specialty items.

Amqui Station Farmers Market

The Amqui Station Farmers Market, serving the Madison area, is scheduled to open for its 2023 season on April 30 and will run until Sept. 24. Hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: Amqui Station and Visitors Center, 303 Madison Station Blvd.

Need to know: The market has been operating since 2014 and is producer-only.

Farmin' in the Hall

The market serving the Crieve Hall neighborhood is known as Farmin' in the Hall and is scheduled to open for the 2023 season on May 4. Hours are 4:30-7 p.m. Thursdays through Sept. 28.

Where: 451 Hogan Road.

Need to know: A unique aspect of this market is the "kid vendors," who are welcome to sell their own products like baked goods, homemade comic books, jewelry, art and more. Local musicians also perform during the event.

Hip Donelson Farmers Market

The volunteer-driven Hip Donelson has operated a farmers market serving the area since 2012. The market's 2023 season is set to kick off May 5 and will operate 4-7 p.m. Fridays until August.

Where: Formerly at Two Rivers Mansion, the market will be at 2705 Lebanon Pike this season.

Need to know: The all-volunteer staff at the market is on hand to assist shoppers with using their SNAP tokens. Vendors include everything from handmade candles to hot sauce.

Sumner County

Goodlettsville Farmers and Artisan Market

Opening day at the Goodlettsville Farmers and Artisan Market is scheduled for May 4. Hours are 3-7 p.m. each Thursday through Oct. 5.

Where: On the lawn and in the parking lot of the Goodlettsville Visitor’s Center at Moss-Wright Park, 705 Caldwell Drive.

Need to know: This is the 6th season for the farmers and artisan market, which offers a selection of produce, meats, baked goods, plants, bath and body products, pet treats and more.

Gallatin Farmers Market

The farmers market serving the Gallatin area will open on May 6. It'll take place on Saturdays from 9-1 p.m. through September.

Where: 160 W. Franklin St.

Need to know: At this market, guests can find handmade wood products, candles and leatherworks.

Rutherford County

La Vergne Farmers Market

The first day of the La Vergne Farmers Market's 2023 season is scheduled for June 6. The market will run every Tuesday 3-7 p.m. until Aug. 29.

Where: The walking trail at Bicentennial Park next to La Vergne City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Road.

Need to know: Food trucks are welcome at this market along with growers and artisans.

Smyrna Depot Farmers Market

Smyrna Depot Farmers Market will begin its 2023 season on May 20 from 8 a.m.-noon. It will run on Saturdays through Sept. 16.

Where: 98 Front Street.

Need to know: Since 2020, the market has hosted live music each event day during the season. Special events will also be scattered throughout the season to highlight specific vendors, back to school days and family-focused activities.

Lascassas Farmers Market

The first day of the Lascassas Farmers Market 2023 season is scheduled for April 22. Hours are 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays. The season ends Oct. 29.

Where: 7684 Barlow Lane.

Need to know: The opening market will feature an Earth Day celebration complete with scheduled activities, including a cake walk raffle and woodworking lessons.

Main Street Saturday Market of Murfreesboro

The 2023 Murfreesboro Saturday Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon beginning May 6. The season is scheduled to run through Oct. 28.

Where: Around the Historic Rutherford County Courthouse, S Public Square, Murfreesboro.

Need to know: This market offers produce, meat, eggs, dairy, baked goods and live music.

Rutherford County Farmers Market

The Rutherford County Farmers Market is set to open May 12 and continue on Tuesdays and Fridays through October. Hours are 7 a.m.-12 p.m.

Where: The Lane Agri-Park Community Center, 315 John R. Rice Blvd.

Need to know: The sizable market has been operating since 1975 with the mission to support economically viable, producer-only farming operations in Middle Tennessee while ensuring the availability of fresh produce to the community.

Williamson County

Nolensville Farmers Market

The winter season of the Nolensville Farmers Market continues this year through April. In May, the summer season will pick back up. The market is ongoing Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: 7260 Nolensville Rd.

Need to know: The market posts regular updates about which vendors guests can expect to see week to week on the Instagram page @nolensvillefarmersmarket.

Franklin Farmers Market

The Franklin Farmers Market operates on Saturdays almost year-round with the winter market running from November-April and the summer market operating May-October. The summer hours, beginning the first Saturday of May, are 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Where: Behind The Factory, 230 Franklin Road.

Need to know: The large market offers a variety of locally-grown and handmade goods. It celebrated 20 years with its 2022 season.

Westhaven Farmers Market

Serving the West Franklin area, the Westhaven Farmers Market operates on Wednesdays from May-October. Hours are 4-7 p.m.

Where: Magli Green Park, 191 Front St.

Need to know: This market was started in 2019 when the manager of the Nolensville Farmers Market stepped up to offer more programming in another location to serve more members of the community.

Thompson Station Farmers Market

The Thompson Station Farmers Market is set to open May 3 and continue each Tuesday until October. Hours are 4-7 p.m.

Where: Homestead Manor, 4683 Columbia Pike.

Need to know: This market also operates a holiday market during the Christmas season. The summer market includes vendors offering produce, baked goods, handmade items and more.
