Season five of Peaky Blinders is currently stomping closer and closer, bearing down on us in slow motion in a nearby back alley, and now we know a bit more about where the opening shots in the next chapter of the Shelby family story will be fired.

Most interestingly, it sounds like Tommy Shelby will court Oswald Mosley rather than going to war with him as expected.

Sunday's first episode, 'Black Tuesday', will be followed by another on Bank Holiday Monday, titled 'Black Cats'. Black Tuesday was the name given to 29 October 1929, the day the stock market in New York hit its lowest level of the Wall Street Crash. Sunderland AFC are known as the Black Cats, but it sounds like the Peaky gang will sadly not be upping sticks en masse and decamping to the north-east for an interwar Dream Team reboot.

Let's have a look at the official descriptions for both episodes. Imagine this crawling up the screen in the yellow-on-black-vacuum-of-space in the time-honoured Star Wars way. This is what we've got for 'Black Tuesday'.

"The Shelby family have dispersed: Michael is living at Shelby Company headquarters in Detroit, while Aunt Polly is holed up with a pilot in Monte Carlo. But the family are quickly brought back together when news of the Wall Street Crash hits and its implications for the family business become clear.

"Meanwhile, Tommy's political career is going from strength to strength; he gives a rousing speech in the House of Commons. It's not long, however, before ghosts from Tommy’s past threaten to undermine his position."

Intriguing, but not many surprises there. There's a bit more to go on in the synopsis for 'Black Cats', though.

"Tommy is at Arrow House when he receives a call from a mysterious new ally with potentially devastating information," it reads. "At Westminster, in a dimly lit bar, he, Ada and [then-Labour MP] Mosley meet to discuss business.

"Meanwhile, a rival gang, keen to send a message to Tommy, use brutal means to do so. At the Garrison pub, Arthur and Finn reveal their plans to expand the Peaky business empire. Later, a birthday celebration is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of someone close to Tommy with a message about a dangerous new enemy."

The take-homes? Be prepared for lots of meanwhiling this season, Harry Kirton wasn't kidding when he said that Finn will be getting his hands dirty this season, and that explosion from the trailer might land earlier than expected.
