Tompkins County man killed when 2 motorcycles collide with car in the Town of Newfield

One person was killed and two other injured Thursday night in a crash involving two motorcycles and a car in the Town of Newfield.

New York State Police at Ithaca identified the victim as Wesley V. Demming, 26, of Newfield.

The collision took place around 8:55 p.m. on Millard Hill Road, about one mile east of Short Lane, state police said.

A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that two Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling west on Millard Hill Road and a Subaru Forester was traveling in the opposite direction, troopers said.

While cresting a knoll, one of the motorcycles crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the Forester. After the initial impact with the car, the two motorcycles then collided.

Demming was the operator of the motorcycle that initially crashed into the Subaru, state police said. Personnel from Newfield Fire Co. and Bangs Ambulance performed life-saving measures, but Demming died at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as Scott Watkins, 19, of Newfield, was transported by Bangs Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for head injuries. He has since been discharged.
