MANSFIELD — When it comes to winning championships, Lucas junior Logan Toms and Shelby junior Alex Bruskotter know a thing or two.

Or four or five.

The newly minted Mansfield News Journal Boys Basketball co-Players of the Year do not know what it is like to end a season without a championship at the end.

Bruskotter averaged 22 points, nine rebounds 4.9 assists and 1.8 steals a game for the Whippets as he helped them four-peat as MOAC champions. He earned Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year, first team All-MOAC, Division II District 6 Player of the Year, first team All-District 6, first team All-Northwest District and second team All-Ohio honors in 2022-23. It was the second All-Ohio honor of his career. He led the Whippets to a 20-4 record and a 13-1 mark in the MOAC to help the Whippets make it four straight league titles, a first in program history.

Toms had similar accomplishments. After averaging 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals a game for the Cubs, he led his team to its fifth consecutive Mid-Buckeye Conference championship. He earned MBC Player of the Year, first team All-MBC, first team All-District 6 in Division IV, Division IV Northwest District Player of the Year, first team All-Northwest District and third team All-Ohio honors. It was the second All-Ohio honor of his career. The Cubs went 21-5 with Toms leading the way and a perfect 10-0 in the MBC.

And now, they can both be called Mansfield News Journal Boys Basketball Players of the Year.
