Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is hopping back on the PGA Tour.

Romo has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the AT&T Byron Nelson at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas in May, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Romo, who is a member at Trinity Forest, has attempted to play in the tournament multiple times, but he’s either failed to qualify or football was in the way.

Now, tournament director Jon Drago said, it finally worked out.

“We’ve talked about it for years,” Drago told the Dallas Morning News. “He’s tried to qualify for some of them, has had conflicts with football. Now we’re playing at Trinity Forest, his home course, and he’s not playing football.

“The timing just felt right this year.”

The former quarterback-turned-analyst has long been involved in the golf world, and even tried to qualify for the U.S. Open in 2005 in the middle of his NFL career. He attempted to qualify for the Web.com Tour last September, but failed to advance through the first stage.

He made his PGA Tour debut last March, playing at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on a sponsor’s exemption. He failed to make the cut in the Dominican Republic, though, shooting 77-82.

Romo last played on Tour with Jim Furyk at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this month, but withdrew on Saturday to attend the funeral of former Cowboys coach Wade Wilson. Before he left, though Romo, had an insane shot from the carpet on a hospitality tent.

“Golf is one of my greatest passions outside my family and football, and I am honored to have the opportunity to compete amongst the pros again in this year’s AT&T Byron Nelson,” Romo said in a statement.

The AT&T Byron Nelson will take place on May 9-12 in Dallas, marking the second year the event will be held at Trinity Forest. While the field is not yet set, both Dallas native Jordan Spieth and defending champion Aaron Wise have committed to play in the event.
