Longtime Palm Springs Unified School District administrator Tony Signoret will serve as that district's interim superintendent effective July 3. The district's current superintendent, Mike Swize, accepted the same job at Perris Elementary School District earlier this week.

"We are delighted to have Tony on board as he brings a wealth of experience within the district along with his exceptional knowledge, talents and leadership abilities," PSUSD Board of Education President John Gerardi after the board appointed Signoret on Thursday afternoon.

Signoret has spent the majority of his 32-year career in education with Palm Springs Unified. He began as a bilingual teacher at Agua Caliente Elementary, served as an assistant principal and principal at the elementary and middle school levels and then became the district director of certificated human resources in 2011. Signoret spent two years as an assistant superintendent of human resources at Desert Sands Unified School District before returning to Palm Springs Unified in that same role in 2017.

"As a longtime member of our district family, I am fully invested in our future and am excited to work with our amazing leadership team and second-to-none staff to move us forward and continue our focus on providing a safe, secure and equitable education for all of our students," Signoret said.

Raised in Mexico City, Signoret is fully bilingual in Spanish. He has a master's degree in educational leadership from Chapman University and a doctoral degree in organizational leadership from the University of La Verne.

The PSUSD Board will take action on plans for the search of a new superintendent at its next meeting on July 11.
