Toomsboro woman arrested on meth charges

Nov. 5—A 35-year-old Wilkinson County woman was arrested on outstanding warrants in Baldwin County on Oct. 29, local authorities say.

It was later learned that she was in the possession of an illegal drug. A warrant was also taken out for her on that offense.

The suspect was identified as Nichole Leigh Lewis, of Ga. Highway 212, Toomsboro, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Deputy Ryant Wright.

A warrant was issued for Lewis on one count of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of methamphetamine.

She was also wanted on three other outstanding warrants.

After her arrest, she was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center and jailed.

Deputy Wright said in his report that he spotted the driver of a 2007 Pontiac Vibe drifting or what also is known as laying drag and driving recklessly through the parking lot of the Circle K store at 3056 N. Columbia St. The incident happened shortly before midnight.

The deputy said he turned on his blue lights and stopped the driver of the car, later learning the name of the driver.

"The driver (Lewis) stated her girlfriend was following her and she was trying to get away," Wright said.

The deputy said he asked the driver for her license but all she had was an ID card.

Wright said he typed the ID number into his mobile system, which alerted him that she was a wanted person.

The deputy said he approached the driver of the car and instructed her to turn the car's ignition switch off and step out of the vehicle.

Lewis was placed into handcuffs.

Wright said he informed Lewis that she was under arrest for the outstanding warrants against her.

Wright said as he walked Lewis to the patrol car, she started seizing.

The deputy said he asked a 911 dispatcher to send EMS to the store.

"I then gently sat Lewis on the ground and turned my emergency lights off," Wright said.

Lewis was treated at the scene by personnel with Grady Emergency Medical Services and then taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville.

The deputy said a short time later he was dispatched to the hospital because drugs had been found on Lewis.

Wright said he met with Atrium Health Police Officer Andy Simpson and retrieved a black box that had been found on the patient.

Inside the black box, the deputy said he discovered a clear crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine, as well as two bags that contained a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana.

The marijuana was disposed of by the deputy, but the methamphetamine was taken as evidence in the case against the suspect.
