Oklahoma's state-produced school report cards

The state also produces Oklahoma school report cards that show how public schools across Oklahoma are serving students in a variety of areas.

Report cards can be accessed at oklaschools.com.

On the website, you can either navigate to the search bar to type in a specific school or district or move to the Oklahoma map and search for your specific school by county.

The website also provides a chart of the composition of the student body measuring by economic disadvantages, students with disabilities and race demographics, comparing these factors to their school performance.

Users also can access a drop-down menu to view how their specific school is doing in five academic indicators that determine their grade.

Report cards are measured across multiple indicators, including academic achievement, academic growth, chronic absenteeism, progress in English language proficiency assessments, postsecondary opportunities and graduation. Each of these indicators receives a specific point value that translates to a letter grade.

How do Oklahoma schools score on the whole?

The state received a cumulative C for its test scores, a B in academic growth and a D in chronic absenteeism, which counts the number of students who miss 10% or more of the school year. Oklahoma scored a B in helping English learners reach language-acquisition targets, a D in high school graduation rates, and a C in giving students early exposure to college or career opportunities.

Is there controversy over how Oklahoma's school report cards work?

The report cards, which give a grade letter for each public school in the state, were released later than usual this year and without the usual fanfare.

The Oklahoma School Report Cards for the 2021-22 academic year came out on April 20 while schools were closing in on their final month of classes in 2022-23. Oklahoma students already were taking state tests for the next round of school report cards when districts received grades for past year’s scores.

Oklahoma's State Department of Education plans to revamp the way it produces public school report cards, and state schools Superintendent Ryan Walters may have support at the state Capitol to accomplish that goal.

Walters and the Education Department have been reluctant to discuss the report cards publicly, though they indicated an overhaul to the school evaluation system is coming.
