The top 10 countries that have provided military, humanitarian, and financial assistance to Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022, are as follows:

·         United States ($63.4 billion)

·         European Union (collective aid from the EU amounted to $16.7 billion)

·         United Kingdom ($8.3 billion)

The following countries are listed in descending order: Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Norway, and Sweden.

However, the assistance from the United States is 1.3 times greater than that of all other participants in the top 10 combined ($47.1 billion).

These findings lead to several interesting conclusions:

·         Poland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have largely focused on military aid to Ukraine.

·         Financial support has become a priority for the European Union and Canada.

·         Germany and France have placed significant emphasis on humanitarian assistance.

However, if we evaluate the assistance provided to Ukraine by each country relative to the size of their economy, the ranking of Kyiv's best friends changes dramatically.

Among the top five countries in terms of aid as a percentage of GDP are three Baltic states, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Indeed, Latvia emerges as the leader in this ranking, having provided assistance to Ukraine worth $400 million, which amounts to nearly 1% of its GDP.

Slightly behind in terms of generosity are Estonia ($300 million or 0.88% of GDP) and Lithuania ($500 million and 0.74% of GDP).

For comparison, all of the assistance from the United States represents only 0.27% of its GDP.

How we calculated

NV sent inquiries to the 50 largest private companies in Ukraine by turnover, as well as to the top 10 IT companies, asking how much funding they had allocated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and humanitarian purposes related to the war. Forty-seven companies responded, while the rest chose not to disclose such information, citing confidentiality and security concerns. Together, these companies donated over UAH 17 billion ($460 million).

Additionally, NV reached out to the top 20 largest banks, of which 14 responded and reported that they had transferred over UAH 3.6 billion ($97 million) to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, thousands of small and medium-sized businesses donate directly to military units or local funds, repair equipment, feed soldiers, support hospitals and clinics.

Sports clubs organize charity matches, and pop stars donate their concert fees for the defense needs of the country. Hundreds of thousands of people collect funds for soldiers through social media platforms (88% of respondents in a January survey conducted by KMIS stated that they had donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

All these contributions play a significant role in the overall process of supporting the army, but it is impossible to calculate their exact value.
