More than just a passing grade

Some great efforts by quarterbacks in Week 7 of the NFL season, so let’s get to it…

10. Tua Tagovaloa, Miami Dolphins

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

It came in a loss, but Tua Tagovailoa did throw 4 touchdown passes. Will it turn out to be a showcase for the Houston Texans in a possible trade for Deshaun Watson? We will know in about 10 days.

9. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

It is almost unfair to put Kyler Murray against a team as feeble as the Houston Texans. The quarterback and Arizona did what they were supposed to do: romped.

8. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Consecutive wins since Jon Gruden’s exit. Derek Carr might have a point to people demeaning him and being wrong. The Las Vegas QB is having a strong season and dissected the Philadelphia Eagles. That said, the Eagles have been sliced and diced by most QBs lately.

7. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Matthew Stafford continues to show the Rams got the better of the deal that sent Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions. It wasn’t easy, but the Rams quarterback threw for 334 yards and a trio of TDs. (Poor Goff threw a pair of picks late as the Lions fell to 0-7.)

6. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan wound up in a QB duel with Tua Tagovaloa. The Falcons got the edge with the late score. Ryan went for 336 and a pair of touchdowns.

5. Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans

Andrew Nelles / Tennessean.com

The stats aren’t important. Ryan Tannehill was solid and ran the offense splendidly, outplaying Patrick Mahomes as the Tennessee Titans throttled the Kansas City Chiefs.

4. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Just another 274 passing yards and 3 TD throws for Aaron Rodgers, who is a marvel.

3. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Mr. 600 threw a quartet of TD passes in the first half.

2. Mac Jones, New England Patriots

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

Nothing makes a New England Patriots’ day more than a game against the New York Jets. Mac Jones went for 307 yards passing and 2 TDs and secured his second victory over Zach Wilson in their rookie seasons.

1. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Sam Greene/The Enquirer

Joe Burrow lit up the Baltimore Ravens, and the Bengals are in first place in the AFC North. The Zac Taylor era has taken flight! Burrow’s stats: 416 passing yards and a trio of TD strikes against the vaunted Baltimore defense.
