The best of the best

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

It was a wild week in the NFL, with comebacks and overtime wins that were capped off by a Monday night thriller that ended on the 1-yard line. As the season rolls toward Week 7, let’s take a look at the top QB performances from all the action.

10. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The night started slowly for Allen, but he found his rhythm and wound up throwing for 353 yards, 3 touchdown passes. Allen also added a 2-point conversion that he caught from Dawson Knox on a trick play. However, he dropped a few spots in our top 10 after slipping on a quarterback sneak and failing to convert on a fourth-and-1 with the game on the line.

9. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Rodgers’ performance earns a mention for his steady play during the victory over the Chicago Bears—195 passing yards, 2 passing TDs and 1 rushing TD—and more so for his highly publicized diss toward the Monsters of the Midway (and everyone associated with them). In case you are wondering, the rematch is Dec. 12 at Lambeau.

8. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Not a vintage Patrick Mahomes performance—another QB who started slowly—as he was tagged for a couple of picks. But Mahomes recovered to throw for 397 and 2 touchdowns, leading the way to a win over the Washington Football Team.

7. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Ho-hum, the GOAT was only 34-42 for 297 yards and 2 TD passes as the Bucs improved to 5-1 with a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Some folks (the betting sort) also noticed Brady was credited with 4 rushes for 1 yard after taking a series of knees at the end of the game.

6. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings never do anything easily, whether it is winning or losing. Kirk Cousins, on the throwing hand, was brilliant against the Carolina Panthers: 33-of-48 for 373 yards with 3 TD passes, including the game-winner to K.J. Osborn in overtime.

5. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

4. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

With the anticipated Week 7 matchup against the Detroit Lions and Jared Goff — remember, the QBs were traded for each other — Matthew Stafford somehow focused on the task at hand against the New York Giants. Stafford was 22-of-28 for 251 yards and 4 TDs. The pick came on a last-second throw as the first half closed. It will be forgiven.

3. Arizona Cardinals, Kyler Murray

Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

Kyler Murray didn’t need a head coach or quarterbacks coach (both of whom had COVID issues and were out) as he dissected the Cleveland Browns. He was 20-of-30 for 229 yards with 4 TDs as the Cardinals rolled to their sixth straight victory. His “Oklahoma Heisman winners battle” with Baker Mayfield was a no-contest.

2. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Speaking of succeeding without a head coach, Derek Carr was on fire as he torched the Denver Broncos to the tune of 341 passing yards and a pair of touchdown passes in the Raiders’ solid AFC West win.

1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys won their fifth straight game by topping the New England Patriots. Dak Prescott was forced to throw the ball 51 times in the wild contest, totaling 445 and 3 TD passes, including the game-winner to CeeDee Lamb in overtime.
