Top 10 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, Jan. 1-7

There are always plenty of things to do in the Coachella Valley. We've put together a list of events and entertainment happening this week.

Firebirds Hockey Games

The Coachella Valley Firebirds will have two hockey games this week at the newly built Acrisure Arena. On Wednesday they are playing against the Colorado Eagles and on Saturday, they are facing off against the San Jose Barracuda.

When: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, and 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7

Music at the Museum: Vinny Berry

Vinny Berry will be performing at La Quinta Museum for a free concert at the venue's courtyard. Berry is a rock 'n' roll artist with inspirations of Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, Otis Reeding and many more. He grew up in Los Angeles and now resides in Ventura–while also previously living in the Coachella Valley.

When: 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5

Peter Cincotti at McCallum Theatre

Peter Cincotti, is a singer-songwriter-pianist who will be performing at the McCallum Theatre. When he was 18-years-old, he charted the number one spot of Billboard's jazz list. Cincotti's career includes a collaboration with David Guetta and being featured in the film "Spider-Man 2."

Caliente Comedy: Sierra Katow

Sierra Kate will headline Caliente Comedy at the Cascade Lounge located in the Agua Caliente Casino. Katow is a Los Angeles-based comedian with acting roles in "The Sex Life of College Girls" on HBO Max and the Disney animated movie, "Raya and the Last Dragon." She also has her own podcast called "Stay Positive" which is about how different guests stay optimistic throughout life.

Art on Main Street

This art walk will feature over 100 artists who will have work displayed and for sale. The art will come in many forms that include paintings, jewelry, ceramics, textiles and more. The event will be located among numerous boutiques and cafes which could provide a days worth of amusement.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 7, Jan. 21, Feb. 4, Feb. 18, March 11, March 25

Agua Caliente Jukebox featuring The Dreamboats

The Dreamboats are a rock 'n' roll and doo-wop influenced band who come from Canada. The quartet describes themselves as a mix of Chuck Berry and The Wonders and will be performing at the Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City. General admission is free but there are VIP options for those looking to upgrade their experience.

When: 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7

Desert Baroque Concerts: Ellen Hargis and Charles Metz

Desert Baroque will kick-off its late Renaissance to mid-19th century concert series titled, "The Art of Time" with performances by Ellen Hargis and Charles Metz. Hargis has over 50 recordings of medieval to contemporary music and was nominated twice for "Best Opera Recording" by the Grammys. Metz studied piano at Pennsylvania State University and has performed in numerous cities across the county.

One Vision of Queen: Starring Marc Martel

Singer Marc Martel will pay tribute to Freddie Mercury and will perform hit songs from the band Queen that include "Somebody to Love," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and more. He was previously the singer of the official tribute band, Queen Extravaganza, and was selected by Roger Taylor for the role.

Evolutionary History of Scorpions

This lecture will be held at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center. Attendees will learn about the evolution of scorpions which first appeared as aquatic organisms 450 million years ago. The RSVP is required for the event and tickets must be brought for check-in at 10:45 a.m.
