Top 10 US golf resorts: South Carolina and Florida come out on top

OK, you golfers, this one’s for you. Golfbreak, a UK-based travel site and PGA Tour’s official golf travel partner, recently ranked the best 16 golf resorts in the US.

It’s a coast-to-coast and even off-the-coast list, topped by Kiawah Island, one of South Carolina’s barrier islands and home to five famous courses — as well as, of course, white sand beaches and other leisure attractions.

Florida, South Carolina and California are all heavily represented on the roster, with the Golden State getting five nods including La Quinta Resort & Spa (No. 2), the PGA West destination near Palm Springs, and the famous Pebble Beach links (No. 3) on the Monterey Peninsula, where you can golf as waves crash very scenically below.

Also on the California list: Torrey Pines in San Diego (No. 10 and ditto on those waves), the Westin Rancho Mirage in Palm Springs (No. 12) and the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad (No. 14).

Here’s a peek at the top 10. All 16, plus details on the links and the resorts can be found at www.golfbreaks.com.
