Top-100 forward Sam Walters is Alabama basketball's first 2023 commitment

Forward Sam Walters, a top-100 prospect from The Villages, Florida, is the first Alabama basketball commitment in the 2023 recruiting class.

Walters announced his commitment via Twitter on Friday after an official visit to Alabama. The 6-foot-8 forward from Villages Charter School committed to the Tide over offers from Florida, Georgetown and Tennessee, among others.

Walters, rated as a 4-star prospect, is ranked 94th in the 247Sports composite rankings and also has a top-100 overall ranking in the class by ESPN and On3.

Alabama basketball's recruiting profile has risen in Nate Oats' tenure. The Tide have never had a class outside the top 25 in the Oats era, and that includes the incoming 2022 class. The 5-man class ranks 5th overall and includes 5-star forward Brandon Miller and guard Jaden Bradley.
