Living history saunter

If you’re in the oldest city in the country, here's a chance to learn a little about the area’s history. The saunter, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, presents a timeline of St. Augustine’s colonial history through participants dressed in the clothing and gear of the city’s military and civilian residents from 1513 to 1784. The saunter is presented by the Historic Florida Militia Inc. in conjunction with the City of St. Augustine.

The saunter’s route runs from the City Gates down St. George Street to Aviles Street, the oldest street in the country. For information, visit hfm.club/about/saunter.

Geocaching 101

Geocaching is like a treasure hunt, where caches are hidden around several county parks with a mobile-friendly website that offers clues along the way. Hosted by the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, the activity includes geocaches that could be hidden anywhere: in bushes or trees; beside a path or structure; or even a few feet off a trail or boardwalk. It takes place Wednesday at Canopy Shores Park.

The activity is free but registration is required. For information or to register, call 904-209-0335 or visit hsjcfl.us/GEO. Canopy Shores Park is at 804 Christina Drive.
