On to the top 8: Girl Named Tom cracks into semifinals on 'The Voice' with Coldplay song

Girl Named Tom, the sibling trio with South Bend ties, took another big step forward on "The Voice" Tuesday night, singing their way into the semifinals on the televised competition.

Caleb, Joshua and Bekah Liechty performed Coldplay's "Vida La Vida" on Monday night during the latest challenge segments for the singing acts, who are performing under the direction of celebrity coaches.

On Tuesday night's live show, Girl Named Tom was announced as one of the eight acts to compete in semifinal action next week. The competition is now decided by viewer votes. The top four will advance to the final round.

"Top 8!! We cannot believe it!!" the group tweeted after the results were revealed Tuesday night.

The siblings hail from the small town of Pettisville, Ohio. They moved to South Bend last year because Joshua’s girlfriend was an Indiana University medical student in South Bend.

Caleb, 26, and Joshua, 24, both graduated from Goshen College, in 2018 and 2019, respectively. In 2019, they formed Girl Named Tom with Bekah, 20.

Girl Named Tom has released three albums independently — “Hits From the Road,” “Another World” and “23” — posted several videos on YouTube and toured nationally.

“The Voice” airs at 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
