“You’re right on top of the action”: Bisons hold open interviews to build team behind the team

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Bisons players are currently in Florida for spring training, and back here in Buffalo, their organization is preparing for Opening Day.

The warm, sunny days spent at Sahlen Field may seem far away, but the Bisons are already looking for their team behind the team. They will be holding open interviews from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the ballpark.

“We’re really looking forward to adding people that want to be here, and be a part of the fun and share that, the experience with the fans,” said Brad Bisbing, the Bisons’ assistant general manager. “We have lots of positions available in concessions, vending the restaurant, Consumer’s The Pub at the Park Restaurant, retail, merchandise lots of opportunities to be a part of an exciting atmosphere, come on down, be a part of the team. Have fun this summer, and make a little money.”

The organization is excited to welcome fans back into the stands even earlier this year. The Bisons begin their season on March 29, marking the earliest Opening Day they’ve had in close to 140 years of professional baseball in Buffalo.

“A lot of work behind the scenes get the field ready get the ballpark ready ordering everything for concession stands, the giveaway items, all the great merchandise selections we have in our team shops, and then putting together a fun promotional schedule,” Bisbing said.

They say they have 75 games of fun planned, including Star Wars Night on May 25, Independence Celebrations with the Buffalo Philharmonic on July 3, and more events.

Leading up to Opening Day, eyes will be on the forecast and the condition of the field, as well as important preparation needed from the grounds crews.

“Sometimes it’s just a little bit of waiting for the temperatures to get right and for the ground to soften up,” Bisbing said. “I know they’re itching to get that first mow in of the outfield grass, it might be a little bit longer, but they’re doing a tremendous job, making sure that when the weather does turn we’ll be ready to go and the field will look great on Opening Day.”

They also have promotions going on this week, including if you buy a Star Wars Night family pack by Sunday, you can get four free tickets to Opening Day. Tickets for all games go online pre-sale Tuesday, and for three days, service fees will be waived. For more information visit their website here.
