Top events in Tampa Bay for June 26-July 2: cheap movies, fireworks, concerts

Summer Family Movie Screenings: Get the kids out of the house and take them to a reduced-rate morning film screening. Here are three programs area theaters are offering.

  • Summer Movie Express: Select Regal Cinema locations show $2 family movies every Tuesday and Wednesday all summer long. This week, Park Place 16 is showing “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.” $2. 10 a.m. Tuesday-Wednesday (June 27-28).   • Summer Movie Funfest: Select CMX movie theaters are showing $1.99 movies every Tuesday through Thursday.   • Summer Movie Camp: Get $3 tickets on Wednesdays and $5 tickets on Saturdays at select AMC theaters. The Cure: Robert Smith and Co. return to Tampa for the first time since 2008. The 30-stop North American tour is a celebration of the Cure’s long career and upcoming “Songs of a Lost World” record. Non-Er Con: Enjoy women’s, mixed-gender and rookie roller derby bouts featuring the Trash Pandas, Swamp Cats, Sasquatch, Skunk Apes, S’mores and Beanie Weenies. Queer-E-Okee: Carson Kressley from “Queer Eye” hosts a roster of local performers presenting some of the gay community’s favorite songs for an audience singalong. Summer Classics Movie Series: Now in its 32nd year, Tampa’s longest-running classic movie series celebrates a century of extraordinary filmmaking. It includes silent films, singalongs, Disney classics and more. This portion features the 1973 action flick “Enter the Dragon” (R, 102 minutes). $10, $7 members. 3 p.m. Sunday (July 2). Busch Gardens Summer Nights: The park has extended park hours every night (9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday) and themed party zones. There will be a fireworks show set to music on the Festival Field every Friday and Saturday. In honor of the Fourth of July, there will also be fireworks Sunday through Tuesday (July 2-4) at 9 p.m. Runs through Aug. 6. Blue Jean: In the 97-minute unrated film, a gym teacher is forced to live a double life after the English government passes a law stigmatizing gays and lesbians. Wawa Summer Fun Day: Wawa and Bok Tower Gardens unite to offer families free admission to roam the gardens and listen to the singing tower the last Thursday and Friday of the month this May through September.
