“Top Gun: Maverick” star Glen Powell will be in Knoxville for the prestigious Medal of Honor Celebration on Sept. 10.

The actor who portrayed "Hangman" will receive the Bob Hope Award for Entertainment, which honors people in the entertainment industry who have exhibited outstanding service to the United States Military or whose work has shown positive portrayals of the military in film or literature.

"I've spent much of my career trying to tell the stories of our men and women in uniform with integrity and accuracy," Powell said in a press release.

"The heroes I have attempted to emulate on screen have become my family in real life. This award for me is the most special of my career in that it's given to me by a community in which I have the utmost respect, admiration and gratitude."

Past recipients of this award include Clint Eastwood, Tom Selleck and Mark Walberg. The award is presented by the Medal of Honor Celebration Committee.

Powell will next star as Navy hero and Medal of Honor recipient Thomas Hudner the war epic “Devotion.” Set for a release Nov. 23, it tells the story and sacrifices of the two most celebrated Navy fighter pilots during the Korean war: Hudner and Jesse Brown.

And in addition to his “Top Gun: Maverick” role, Powell portrayed astronaut John Glenn in the Oscar-nominated film “Hidden Figures.”

At the Patriot Awards Gala on Sept. 10 in Knoxville, Powell will join other previously announced award recipients Ambassador Nikki Haley, NBC News Correspondent Courtney Kube and Dr. Timothy Miller. Actor Dennis Quaid had been named this year's Bob Hope Award recipient but had a scheduling conflict.

This will be the second time the ceremony has been held in Knoxville after it was first held here in 2014. Actor and previous Bob Hope Award recipient Gary Sinise, known for his role as Lt. Dan in “Forrest Gump," will serve as the master of ceremonies for the Patriot Awards Gala.
