Top high school football performances from Friday, Sept. 16 in the Burlington area

Two area teams got much-needed wins on Friday night to put a few ghosts to rest once and for all.

West Burlington-Notre Dame posted a 30-20 win over Mount Pleasant at Mapleleaf Stadium in Mount Pleasant, ending a 13-game losing streak dating back to a 30-24 victory over Davis County on October 16, 2020.

Oddly enough, that victory in Bloomfield was the Falcons' first postseason win. They lost to Williamsburg the following week, then went 0-9 last year before losing their first three games this season.

The Falcons started fast and finished strong despite missing two starting offensive linemen. Isaiah Fenton and Carsen Jones were moved to the offensive line and did a stellar job.

Mount Pleasant quarterback Jacob Richtman threw for 301 yards, including scoring strikes to Wyatt Woodsmall, Payton Hagans and Bowen Davis.

WB-ND (1-3) hosts Solon on Sept. 23 in the district opener.

Mediapolis, on the other hand, posted its first-ever victory over Iowa City Regina to run its record to 4-0.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first on a 31-yard pass from Ben Egan to Aedin Nelson.

After Regina scored a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game, Drew Miller botted a 39-yard field goal to give Mediapolis the lead for good.

Anthony Isley scored the only touchdown of the second half on a 14-yard run.

Isley rushed for 159 yards on 22 carries. He outrushed the entire Regina team. Isley also had a team-leading seven tackles.

Egan rushed for 46 yards on 11 carries, while Levi Arnold recovered a fumble which was forced by Kyle Vorwerk.
