Rockford-area players stepped up their games again during Week 3 of the high school football season, led by Rochelle's Garrett Gensler's 362-yard rushing effort.
Each week, the Rockford Register Star will take a look at the top-performing teams and players across the Rockford area.
Here is our list for Week 3:
Garrett Gensler, Rochelle
Gensler powered his way to 362 yards rushing on 15 carries, scoring five touchdowns during Rochelle's 60-34 dominant win over Johnsburg. The Hubs gained 687 yards, all on the ground, as they rolled to 3-0.
Gunar Lobdell, Lena-Winslow
Lobdell, who transferred to Lena-Winslow in the offseason, had his best performance as a Panther, rushing for 166 yards and two TDs on just nine carries during Le-Win's 46-0 win over Galena.
High school football Week 3: Scores from around the Rockford area
Johnny Kobler, Forreston
The former lineman converted to a fullback had 23 carries for 137 yards and two touchdowns as Forreston crushed E/PC 34-21.
Porter Needs, Stillman Valley
Needs charged for 178 yards and three TDs to lead Stillman Valley to the 41-6 victory over Oregon. Needs and the Cardinals rushed for 419 yards and 24 first downs.
Kaidyn Niedermeier, Dakota
Dakota's quarterback threw for 139 yards and two TDs during a 34-20 win over Stockton, and his first TD pass turned the game around at the end of a back-and-forth first quarter.
Carson Behn, Byron
Behn rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries, and he had eight tackles on defense as he helped lead Byron to a commanding 45-6 win over Lutheran. Behn and the Tigers' defense held Lutheran down all night.
Deterrace Dotson, East
Dotson rushed for 200 yards on 21 carries to lead East to its first victory with a 36-6 win over Belvidere.
Gunnar Vuorenmaa, Belvidere
The junior quarterback completed 6 of 12 passes for 85 yards and ran 13 times for 36 yards in winless Belvidere's 36-6 loss to East.
Nico Bertolino, Belvidere North
Bertolino rushed for 123 yards and a TD on only 10 carries in Belvidere North's 31-28 victory over Boylan.
Nick Winters and Gabriel Lang, Belvidere North
Winters scored on a pick-6 and Lang intercepted a pass inside North's own 10-yard line in the final minute in the two biggest defensive plays of the game in Belvidere North's 31-28 victory over Boylan.
Alan Perez, Belvidere North
Perez, a sophomore backup kicker, kicked a 47-yard field goal with 1:20 to play to lift Belvidere North to a 31-28 victory over Boylan.
Mark Harris, Boylan
Harris caught eight passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns in Boylan's 31-28 loss to Belvidere North. That ranks third in Boylan history, behind the 199 yards Jim O'Conner had against East in 1979 and the 160 Harris had last season in a loss to Harlem.
Chandler Alderman, North Boone
Alderman completed 29 of his 41 passes for 257 yards and 3 TDs, but he also had two interceptions and North Boone fell to 0-3 with a 47-19 loss to Genoa-Kingston. The Vikings had 20 first downs to G-K's 14 and Alderman also added 43 rushing yards, but yet the game was never really close.
Cooper Hoffman, Durand/Pecatonica
Hoffman rushed for 120 yards and 1 TD and passed for 64 yards and another score, but he also had three interceptions and Du/Pec fell 31-22 to Fulton.
Logan Olson, Winnebago
Olson had 11 catches for 117 yards, that's a 10.6-yard-per-catch average, and he scored two touchdowns as Winnebago rolled over Rock Falls 45-13.
