Top high school games to watch in Pueblo for the week of March 27 to April 1
The 2023 spring season is underway, and coming back from spring break, many of the Pueblo area teams are back in action this week.
There are double headers in baseball; Pueblo vs. Pueblo action in girls soccer; boys volleyball and lacrosse; girls tennis; and a rare opportunity to catch track and field in town, so this week's games are filled with plenty of action.
Here are the top games to watch for from March 27 through April 1:
Baseball
Lamar vs. Pueblo East, Andenucio Field, 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 27
La Junta vs. Pueblo Centennial, Runyon Field, 7 p.m. Monday, March 27
Canon City vs. Pueblo Central, Pueblo Central Baseball Field, 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28
Elizabeth vs. Pueblo Centennial, Runyon Field, 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30
Limon vs. Rye, at Rye High School, 1 and 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 31
Ellicot vs. Dolores Huerta Prep, at Dolores Huerta Prep, 4 and 7 p.m. Friday, March 31
Swink vs. Dolores Huerta Prep, at Dolores Huerta Prep, 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1
Palmer Ridge vs. Pueblo County, Runyon Field-Andenucio Field, 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1
Plenty of action on the diamond this week as the East Eagles get started with a matchup against Lamar. The Bulldogs have two home games this week against La Junta and Elizabeth.
Central takes on Canon City on Tuesday, and Rye hosts Limon on Friday. Dolores Huerta has a doubleheader this week as they take on Ellicot twice on Friday then follow up the next day with a matchup against Swink. Finally, Pueblo County rounds out the week with a game against Palmer Ridge.
Boys lacrosse
Douglas County vs. Pueblo West, at Pueblo West High School, 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 27
Smoky Hill vs. Pueblo West, at Pueblo West High School, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29
The boys co-op lacrosse team will have two homes this week as they continue to grow under new head coach Danny Saenz. With matchups against Douglas County and Smoky Hill, the Pueblo West team will soon find out what kind of team they really are and what they still must work on this season.
Girls soccer
Pueblo East vs. Rye, at Rye, 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28
Pueblo West vs. Pueblo Central, at Langoni Field, 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30
Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South, at Langoni Sports Complex, 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30
Pueblo East vs. Pueblo County, at Pueblo County High School, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30
The Vanguard School vs. Rye, at Rye High School, 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30
There will be lots of action this week in girls soccer as Rye hosts Pueblo East early in the week. Pueblo West takes on Central on Thursday, while Centennial takes on South right after at Langoni Field. Rye has one more matchup on Thursday against Vanguard School. Finally, the Hornets host the Eagles on Thursday night at Pueblo County High School.
Girls tennis
Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo West, at Pueblo West High School, 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28
Pueblo County vs. Pueblo South, at Pueblo South High School, 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 28
Pueblo South vs. Pueblo East, at Pueblo East High School, 4 p.m. Thursday, March 30
Colorado Springs School vs. Pueblo East, at Pueblo East High School, 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1
There are early season matchups between Pueblo high schools on the tennis court this week, with Central and West kicking off and County and South battling the same day. Then South will take on East on Thursday, followed by a matchup for East on Saturday against Colorado Springs School.
Boys volleyball
Vanguard vs. Pueblo South, at Pueblo South High School, 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 29
The South Colts boys volleyball team plays its first home game of the season this week against Vanguard on Wednesday. The team has yet to play a game this season, yet they are still receiving votes for the top 10 in the state, according to CHSAA’s latest rankings.
Track and field
Varsity Cyclone Invite, Pueblo West High School, 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30
This is a rare opportunity to see the best in Pueblo compete in track and field as Pueblo West hosts its annual Cyclone Invite on Thursday. As of now, all the Pueblo area schools are scheduled to compete in the event. With the renovations happening at Dutch Clark stadium this season, the track and field teams will have very few opportunities to show off their skills in front of their hometown.
