Here are the top high schools in the Peoria area, according to U.S. News & World Report
Dunlap High School tops the list of Peoria-area schools in the latest ranking of high schools by U.S. News & World Report.
Rated No. 2 is Morton High School, and in the No. 3 spot is Washington Community High School. Metamora Township High School was rated as the fourth-best high school in the Peoria area, and Richwoods High School took the fifth-place slot.
Schools are ranked on their students’ performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college.
Dunlap High School is ranked 53rd in Illinois and 1,441 in the nation. The publication noted the fact that students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams, and that the student participation rate in that program is 40%. It also noted that minority enrollment is 35%, with 13% of students considered economically disadvantaged, and that 90% of students graduate.
Morton High School ranks second
U.S. News & World Report ranked Morton High School 83rd in Illinois and 2,387 in the U.S. Participation in the Advanced Placement coursework and exam is 28%. The total minority enrollment is 10%, and the graduation rate is 97%.
Washington High School places third
The No. 3-ranked school, Washington Community High School, ranked 91st in Illinois and 2,602 in the U.S. The participation in Advanced Placement coursework and exams is 37%, and 92% of students graduate. Washington has a minority enrollment of 12.6%.
