Kentucky basketball commitment Reed Sheppard and North Laurel bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 77-41 victory over Barren County in the Nissan Legacy Classic on Saturday night. Sheppard finished with 29 points. The UK recruit scored 36 points in his first major test of the season Friday night, but North Laurel fell 88-76 to visiting Greenwood in that contest.
The Greenwood game was the second of the season for Sheppard, who scored seven points in very limited minutes during an 84-22 victory over Red Bird on Monday night. Greenwood, ranked No. 19 in the Herald-Leader’s preseason poll, posed a much tougher test, returning four starters from last season’s 4th Region runner-up squad. North Laurel was No. 6 in the preseason rankings
Sheppard led the state in scoring as a sophomore with 30.1 points per game last season. He is the No. 17 player nationally in the 2023 rankings and committed to Kentucky last month.
