Nov. 11—Grabbing a bite with Joey Wright
On Saturdays, we chop it up with the folks responsible for dishing up food around the area. What restaurant should we try next? Let Joey Wright know at jwright@news-gazette.com.
U.S. military veterans are in for a Veteran's Day treat at Bob Evans.
Champaign's location — at 1813 N. Neil St. — is among participating Bob Evans restaurants nationwide that are offering a complimentary dine-in meal to veterans throughout the holiday.
At any point during the day, veterans who provide proof of service can choose from a range of seven special menu items at no cost to them. Bob Evan's also offers a daily 10 percent discount to veterans.
"For me personally, I have several family members and friends who have been in the service," restaurant general manager Amanda Buck said. "I just think its an amazing thing for any company to do. It shows that we appreciate them."
It's among a few different tokens of appreciation that Champaign's recently renovated location has planned for the coming months.
Though not free in the same vein as the Veterans Day promotion, the chain's popular Farmhouse Feasts are a great way for folks who aren't in a position to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal to enjoy the flavors of the food-focused holiday.
"A lot of people really like those," Buck said. "Especially our senior citizens who don't make their Thanksgiving meals anymore, we make everything, box it up, and then all they have to do is heat it up for Thanksgiving."
